Remove metadata from an image
Drop a JPEG, PNG or WebP file below. This tool reads it in your browser, lists every EXIF, IPTC, XMP and C2PA marker it finds, removes them, and gives you a cleaned file to download. The image never leaves your device.
What it removes
Metadata is the part of an image file that is not a pixel: a header of key/value fields recording the camera or software that produced it, sometimes GPS coordinates, sometimes a full AI generation prompt, sometimes a signed C2PA manifest declaring the file machine made.
| Marker | Where | Removed |
|---|---|---|
| EXIF | JPEG APP1, PNG eXIf, WebP EXIF chunk | Yes |
| XMP | JPEG APP1, PNG iTXt/tEXt, WebP XMP chunk | Yes |
| IPTC | JPEG APP13 | Yes |
| C2PA / JUMBF | JPEG APP11, PNG caBX | Yes |
| Comment segments | JPEG COM | Yes |
| Colour profile, gamma, pixel density | PNG iCCP, gAMA, sRGB, pHYs | Kept, so the image still displays correctly |
How it works
Every image format stores metadata in clearly delimited segments alongside the pixel data: APPn markers in a JPEG, ancillary chunks in a PNG, RIFF chunks in a WebP file. This tool parses that structure directly, in JavaScript, and removes only the segments in the table above. It never decodes or re-encodes the pixel data, so the image quality is untouched and the operation is instant, even on large files.
This tool removes metadata, it doesn't change pixels. PassReal also processes the pixels.
Removing metadata deletes what a file declares about its origin. It does not change how the image content itself reads to a person or to a classifier trained on pixel statistics. PassReal is the paid product built for that second problem: it simulates sensor grain, smooths the frequency spectrum and writes coherent camera metadata, measured on real exports rather than assumed.

Questions
Does the image leave my device
No. The file is read and rewritten by JavaScript running in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is no upload, no queue and no size limit tied to a network request.
What metadata does this tool remove
EXIF, IPTC, XMP and C2PA/JUMBF provenance blocks on JPEG, PNG and WebP files. On PNG it removes text chunks and the eXIf chunk while keeping the colour profile, gamma and pixel density chunks intact so the image still displays correctly.
Does this change the pixels or make the image undetectable
No. This tool edits the file's binary segments only. It never re-encodes or alters a single pixel. It removes what a file declares about its own origin, not what a classifier measures in the image content. PassReal, the paid product, is the one that also processes the pixels.
Is there a file limit or a paywall
No account, no limit, no watermark. The tool runs entirely in your browser so there is no server cost per file to recover.
